DISPARADE FAMILIES

“I was quite content to be uprooted because I feared the influence of roots on me (....). I found myself in a pleasant bath because I could swim calmly, whereas one cannot swim calmly if there are too many roots. Do you understand?”
Marcel Duchamp
With their new piece DISPARADE FAMILIES, choreographer Josep Caballero García and his team venture into one of the most formative spaces for many people: the family. This choreographic invocation narrates, sings, and dances alternative family concepts, inviting audiences to witness other forms of community and connection.
Fully aware that one may not always get to choose their family, Josep Caballero García and his team are all the more interested in weaving together family stories and exploring steps of retreat and reflection. DISPARADE FAMILIES is an homage to the self-chosen detachment from the given, a joyful celebration of ruptures, an ode to replanting deep-rooted ties, and a lyrical tribute to those who leave, those who stay, and those who are just arriving.
In that spirit: Welcome to Disparade Families!
